How did we choose the Caldone's Name?

Many people have asked what is the meaning of Caldone's? So I would like to tell you the story behind Caldone's. My wife (Karuleen Bennett) and I were living and working in Baghdad Iraq in 2005 when I received a call from one of our best employees and most loyal friends.

Mofeed was a Chaldean Christian, which is a minority in Iraq or previously known as ancient Babylonia. Mofeed (my friend) called in panic saying he needed a security team to come and rescue him from a planned ambush from an extremist group. Mofeed told us that two cars were trying to force him off the roadway and that they were shooting AK-47's at him from the rear vehicle. During this conversation a bullet from the rear vehicle passed through the back glass of Mofeed's car, through his driver seat and lodged in Mofeed's back. Mofeed wrecked the car and the extremist fled while Mofeed laid there with one round lodged approximately four inches from his spine.

Shortly after receiving the call, our security team arrived on the scene. We immediately transferred Mofeed to our vehicle and transported him to the hospital in the green zone. Mofeed laid there while the doctor extracted the bullet without saying one word, as if pain did not matter. The doctor provided us with bandages and antibiotics to care for him.

Needless to say this incident created a bond between us that many do not experience in life, and as a result he wanted me to name my son Caldone which was a Babylonian ruler, who had favored the Christians. So in honor of my dear friend Mofeed my wife and I decided to name our restaurant Caldone's. God has Blessed our Family and we are Thankful.

Very Respectfully,
Donnie, Karuleen, (Kaden & Kolten aka Mario & Luigi)
